"If nuclear power is the
answer…it must have been a very stupid question."
Professor Ian Lowe,
President of the Australian Conservation Foundation
Nuclear is the most
polluting and energy demanding "pseudo green"
technology we could every be sold.
Nuclear waste has
not been proven to be reliable, clean, renewable, safe, cost
effective or in any way green.
The problems with
nuclear energy are so huge there is not time or space on this site
to cover all of the issues. Very little to none of what we are told
by the nuclear industry even resembles truth, even the claim that
nuclear is CO2 neutral is not currently correct and will be less so
as ore quality reduces over the next 10 years.

nuclear process can be found on this site at

This Technology is just away for commercial
enterprises can obtain
funding from the public purse while looking green and not doing anything. Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
sequestration (storing
underground) is not possible in most places in the world.
At present this concept
is a way for industry and government to spend millions of tax payer
dollars while not actually achieving any outcome. More to the point
they have already proven that although there are millions of dollars
going into research sequestration will never provide a solution
which can match the current output from industry alone.
On to of all the other
aspects of sequestration is the fact that it has no possible
application in transportation which is a major cause of global
warming.
At this stage CO2 sequestration is not a solution to anything and has been
shown may never provide a solution.

Although there is a great deal of argument for hydrogen powered
vehicles, to this day it has not been proven to be a serious
replacement for oil. There is no argument that hydrogen burns clean
or that it holds great energy resources. Historically the production
of hydrogen has not been clean green and will continue not to be for
some time to come. The other aspect of hydrogen is not often
mentioned and yet and it remain the dangerously volatile gas which
burned up in the Hindenburg air ship in 1937.
The Hindenburg burned up in 31 to 37
seconds.
A
recent story on the ABC website about hydrogen has pointed to one of
the major problems with this fuel source and why it remains a
popular option for corporate and political bodies (http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/01/18/2141833.htm).
In Iceland there is a move to hydrogen but what is actually being
proposed is an internal combustion engine running hydrogen to charge
the batteries. The vehicle will actually be an electric car. This is
an electric car by any other name and the use of a combustion engine
of any sort is purely to continue supplying the present automotive
parts market with income.
Plug in
electric cars require no oil for engine operation and the parts
required during the life of the vehicle are reduced significantly. A
saving in parts is not only a cost saving to the vehicle owner but a
saving to the atmosphere with a reduction in CO2 through mass
manufacture of small unnecessary parts.
In
addition to the automotive parts market is the extended fuel chain.
It takes a considerable amount of electricity to produce hydrogen in
commercial quantities and this electricity is generated on the most
part by burning fossil fuels. The mining and burning of fossil fuels
is a major contributor to the current global warming situation.
By
producing hydrogen from electricity all that is produced is in fact
produced is a gross loss of energy. At every stage it cost energy to
make hydrogen, yet it is possible to charge a car straight from the
power source without the additional stage of hydrogen production. In
effect this reduces the amount of CO2 output and increases the
potential for electricity production.
Hydrogen
is now a thing of the past in any case with battery technology now
giving cars a possible 300km range while storage of hydrogen
remains a major issue and the amount able to be stored in a car
remains at around 100km range. Range, storage, volatility and cost
are sure signs that hydrogen is a political fiction.
The
reason for hydrogen remaining a popular choice for commercial
interests is the profit to be made in the parts market. This is not
a choice which takes into consideration the welfare of our planet or
its people. By generating the electricity for a electric car from
renewable sources it is possible to run a near zero CO2 vehicle.

This is
a working technology and could be used to replace the current world
car fleet.
HOWEVER,
this technology is not a real technology. The use of a combustion
engine to charge batteries to run an electric motor is the principle
behind the hybrid. The need for a combustion engine to accelerate
away at traffic lights and intersections is pure fiction.
The
electric car market presently produces cars able to outrun and out
perform most combustion engine cars and is a growing field of
automotive research. The hybrid is in actual fact a link to our
reliance on the combustion engine. It is similar in theory to
supplying a heroin addict with methadone, the replacement of one
drug with another only slightly less dangerous and continuing the
cycle of addiction.
This remains a popular
choice for the automotive industry as it prolongs the life of the
parts market which has become a multimillion dollar industry and
continues our addiction to oil. Plug in electric (a car plugged in
when at rest to charge it batteries) is able to replace the current
fleet as well as hybrids but break the oil addiction and require
very few parts.

Not a very
environment subject on face value but the Parts Market is the drive behind a
lot of the environmental issue we face today.
Why is it
that electric cars are not on the roads in mass produced numbers? It has
little or nothing to do with technology and given what corporations know
about advertising they could sell them to you with very little effort. It's
not the price, batteries may be costly at this time but electric motors are
much cheaper that combustion engines. So why?
Parts.
A
multi-million dollar industry exists in selling you parts and there are more
and less reliable parts to be found in a tradition combustion driven car.
Brake pads, exhaust systems, oil, oil filters are but some of the parts that
require replacement regularly over the life of a combustion driven car. An
electric car doesn't require these things.
Why is the
Hybrid car so popular a choice? Why is it not plug in chargeable electric?
Parts.
The hybrid
car is still a combustion drive car. The reason it is not plug in is that
you may find that unless you travel long distances you don't need the
combustion engine. While you are being sold the myth that electric cars
don't work for you, what is really happen is the protection of millions of
dollars in profit.
Why is
hydrogen a popular political option?
Parts and
delay strategy.
The
hydrogen engine is still a combustion engine and requires all the same parts
as any other combustion drive car. The storage of hydrogen makes it no more
effective than electric for range and because it is flammable it has one
major setback for most of us. It has become a popular option for politicians
because like clean coal there is a possibility that some time in the not to
distant (ten years and has been ten years for several now) it may work but a
lot of tax payer dollars needs to be invested into the auto industry to
research it. Meanwhile nothing changes and we keep doing things the way we
always have without a second thought.

The
strategy of delay is a common one in business. If you push long enough the
political wind will change. In the 1980's people were against uranium mining
but if you wait in the year 2007 it becomes possible again. Every year
Telstra put it to the federal government that they needed to have timed
local calls, in time it may come but they got lucky and mobile phones opened
up a new market and we have timed calls and strange deals on call costs. It
is not new at all, the auto and oil industries waited 10 years to kill
legislation which saw electric cars on the road in the USA. Corporations
don't forget like individuals do so they have time in their favour.
Governments also work this line but they have the advantage of "official
secrets" that corporations don't have. Defence and the fear of someone
invading one day are hand devices to allow governments to keep secrets in
the "interest of national security" for 30 years or more. If only
corporations had the same legal standing...
