Earth Hour

Earth Hour is an Australian concept now going global. Originally planned for Sydney residents we here in Mount Isa decided to play our part. Our members were informed of the event in 2007 with no commitment to act. Some of us went as far as not having any power in our houses for 2 hours (turned of at the mains to be sure).

In 2008 11 cities from across the globe are committed to join the Earth Hour movement. Cities from North America, Europe, Asia, Australasia and the Middle East will be participating and turning off their lights at 8pm on 29 March 2008, uniting for one hour in a global action to fight climate change.

This commitment to turn of our light will save one hour of greenhouse gas and help promote awareness of climate change and power consumption issues.

It is hoped that we can get Mount Isa to formally commit in 2008 however even if this does not happen CLEAN will do its bit.
